This past Mother’s Day, Radebaugh Florist and Greenhouses announced a special contest to find Towson’s Favorite Mom. Various people submitted their mothers as nominees on our website in hopes of receiving the coveted title, along with an exclusive gift basket with goodies from local vendors and stores. The search was on to find Towson’s favorite mom in time for Mother’s Day!  We were overwhelmed with the stories of two spectacular mothers and are excited to share their stories.

Carolyn & Cynthia Fraser

Cynthia Fraser nominated her mother, Carolyn Fraser, whom she described as “the most loving, amazingmom you could ask for.” Her thoughtful nomination introduced her mother as a local hero, who spends her time caring for others in her neighborhood and community. “She is always doing small random acts of kindness for neighbors and checks on elderly neighbors after storms, even though she is 87 herself!” Cynthia then recalled how Carolyn would look for thicker squirrel-proof wires and log her neighborhood’s frequent power outages until BGE rerouted them to a closer substation, decreasing the large amount of neighborhood outages. She worked to resurface potholes and puddles and would volunteer at the YMCA, where she mailed out envelopes to large donors all by herself in the hopes that they would contribute to the hospital GBMC was looking to build in Towson in the 1950s and 60s. “Years later,” said Cynthia, “she met the CEO of GBMC and he introduced her to a colleague as the woman who single handedly got the hospital built for Towson!”

Carolyn was also sure to set aside time for her children. “I had severe asthma as a kid,” said Cynthia. “And she would stay up all night with me rocking me in a chair. She found ways for us to have fun that did not cost much money, like trips to the Smithsonian, fossil collecting at Calvert Cliffs, and growing our own vegetables.” It was evident that Carolyn was an impactful mother who to this day cares deeply for the ones she loves, and thanks to Cynthia’s generous nomination, she was rewarded with the Grand Prize basket.

Alice & Barbara Jones

The runner-up for the contest was Alice Jones, the mother of fellow nominator Barbara Jones. Barbara discussedbeing diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer just five years ago, but she remembered her mother’s care and support throughout the process. “Everyday, she would make me 3 meals a day and deliver them to me on the seat of her walker. She also went to all of my treatments, which would last for 7 hours.” Alice’s big heart was there to comfort Barbara during a very difficult time. “She was also there during my 3 surgeries. I don’t know how many mothers in their late 80’s who would or could be able to take care of me the way she did.”

The outstanding kindness and generosity of these two mothers earned them their own delightful Mother’s Day baskets – which included flowers, sweet treats from Wockenfuss candies, wine from Pinehurst Wine Shoppe, gifts from All About Me Salon and Day Spa, and a special gift from Radcliffe Jewelers. Radebaugh Florist was delighted to have the chance to team up with other local shops to create a very special gift for two very special mothers who clearly earned their spots as Towson’s Favorite Mom.
